From the moment our children are born, over 200 chemicals course through their veins. From the yards they play in to the clothes they wear and the food they eat, our kids continue to absorb toxic chemicals every day.As parents, we'd like to think the safest place for our children is at home. However, now with environmental toxins in the food we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe, we have to do more to ensure our kids are able to grow up healthy and happy. Did you know environmental toxins can impact how our children behave, think, interact with others and even how healthy they are?
In 1997 a milestone declaration was signed at a G8 summit (a meeting of the heads of state or government of the world’s leading industrialized nations), which called for recognition of children’s environmental health as a priority. In the same year, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established a policy to consider health risks to infants and children in all risk assessments, risk characterizations, and environmental standards. Because of bio persistence, children remain "actively" exposed to dioxins and PCBs, since they are present in foods (for example, meat, fish, egg) and breast milk.
"... children are much more sensitive and vulnerable to chemicals than adults are."- Dr. Philip Landrigan, MDDean for Global Health at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.
Toxins block our children's ability to absorb nutrients and affects their behavior, health and ability to learn. The organs that these toxins impact the most are the liver, the gastrointestinal tract, the adrenals, the brain (mind) and colon.
Many moms and dads - and teachers - report unexplained angry outbursts, frustration, anxiety, moodiness, brain fog and poor performance even while kids are doing simple tasks.
